Send A Vet Foundation
Free hunting trips for veterans -- bear hunts in Idaho and duck hunts in Arkansas -- with travel and lodging reimbursed for the entire trip. Veterans must be nominated for a trip rather than applying directly. Washington-based 501(c)(3).
Warfighter Advance
Free 7-day retreat (ADVANCE) for veterans dealing with PTSD, anxiety, depression, adjustment disorder, anger, or mTBI, plus workshops on combat stress and military sexual trauma. Held at Lions Camp Merrick in Nanjemoy, Maryland. The organization raises 100% of participant costs, so warriors attend at no personal cost from anywhere in the country.
Operation Tohidu (Melwood Veterans Services)
Free 5-day intensive retreat -- outdoor activities, yoga, acupuncture, art therapy, and group work -- for veterans and service members managing PTSD, TBI, anxiety, depression, moral injury, or military sexual trauma. Couples retreats also offered. Held at a 108-acre retreat center in Nanjemoy, Maryland. Free of charge including lodging and travel. Status note: Melwood postponed recent cycles while the program moves to Melwood Veterans Services LLC, so call before applying.
Saratoga WarHorse Foundation
Free 3-day equine-assisted healing program pairing veterans with off-the-track thoroughbreds to work through trauma, sleep trouble, anger, or difficulty adjusting to civilian life. No PTSD diagnosis required. Saratoga Springs, New York. Travel, lodging, meals, and the program itself are 100% covered, no cost to the veteran.
Guardian Hills Veterans Healing Center
Free week-long residential retreat near Kirksville, Missouri for veterans and first responders dealing with PTS or moral injury -- equine therapy (HIGH), archery, art, journaling, and fishing. Lodging and meals are free; per their own application, travel to the campus is the participant's responsibility.
Operation Heal Our Patriots (Samaritan's Purse)
A free week-long marriage retreat in Alaska for married veterans and active-duty couples where one spouse was wounded in combat after 9/11. Chaplain-led marriage enrichment plus wilderness activities. Samaritan's Purse pays for all travel, lodging, and ongoing follow-up care. Applications open February 1 each year.
Finding Purpose Outdoors Foundation

America's VetDogs
Trains and places guide and service dogs free of charge for veterans and service members with disabilities. Travel, lodging, and training at their New York campus are all covered.
Patriot PAWS Service Dogs
Trains and provides service dogs at no cost to veterans with mobility limitations or PTSD. Based in Rockwall, TX.
Warrior Canine Connection
Mission-based trauma recovery program where veterans help train service dogs for other wounded warriors. To receive a trained dog, plan on an 8-day stay at their Maryland campus; travel costs are generally on you.
Freedom Service Dogs
Trains and places service dogs free of charge with veterans and others with disabilities. Based in Colorado with a 3-4 year wait; travel there is on you.
Airpower Foundation - Service Dog Program
